Staying Positive in a Crisis
In difficult times, the most powerful thing we can do is keep our head up
It is a vast understatement to say that the last couple of weeks have been an experience none of us were expecting or prepared for. For many of us, our lives were completely flipped upside down: jobs were put on hold, children and young adults found themselves out of school several months too soon, stores were ransacked, and before long we were told not to even leave our house. The worst part of it has to be the uncertainty; not knowing how long this situation will last, when things will go back to normal (if they ever will), what our government will do to help out. The list can go on and on. And with all of this uncertainty, it is easy for the world to adopt a negative mindset about where we find ourselves now. We see it every day on social media and the news, where the worst-case scenario seems to be every scenario we hear about. We all can become the biggest cynic in times like this, viewing everything in a “glass half empty” light.
In times of hardship, staying positive can be the hardest thing imaginable. This is why it is the most important thing as well. Only looking for what is wrong is a dangerous cycle that can bring yourself and those around you down, and when the situation reaches levels like we are currently seeing that only serves to make things worse. A positive person can be the beacon of light we all desperately need in times like these, as is contagious; once one person sees the light at the end of the tunnel, it won’t take long for others to do so as well. We need to all be each other’s beacon of light during this pandemic, lifting each other up with a positive outlook for the future. Communities only thrive when people know they can lean on their neighbors when in need, and that is exactly how we will get through this: together. Spread positivity, and there is no limit to what we can do.
